The real-time multiplayer party game where you get secret words, describe them to your friends, and vote to unmask the impostor hiding among you.
Share the 5-letter room code with your friends. Up to 20 players can join.
Each player gets a role — Civilian, Undercover, or Mr. White — and a secret word (or none for Mr. White!).
Take turns giving one-word or short clues about your word — but be subtle! You don't want to give too much away.
After the description rounds, vote on who you think the impostor is. Civilians win when all impostors are found!
The original experience. Players describe their words over multiple rounds, then vote to eliminate suspects. Strategy and deduction at its finest.
Everyone describes once, then a single dramatic vote decides everything. Fast-paced and high stakes — perfect for quick rounds.
Roles are distributed and players discuss freely — no structured turns. The host triggers the vote whenever the group is ready.
Impostry is a free real-time multiplayer party game inspired by the classic "Undercover" social deduction game. Players receive secret words and roles, then try to find the impostors hiding among them through clever descriptions and strategic voting. Whether you're at a party with friends or playing online from different locations, Impostry brings the thrill of social deduction to any group of 3 to 20 players.
We believe the best moments happen when friends come together to play. Impostry was created to bring people closer through laughter, suspicion, and the joy of unmasking a hidden impostor. Our goal is to provide a fun, accessible, and free party game that anyone can pick up and enjoy — no downloads, no sign-ups required to play.
Impostry runs entirely in your browser — no app download needed. It's built as a Progressive Web App (PWA), meaning you can install it on your home screen for a native-like experience. The game uses WebSocket technology for real-time communication, ensuring instant updates and smooth gameplay across all devices.
Civilian: Receives the main secret word. Must identify and eliminate all impostors through careful observation. Civilians are the majority and must work together.
Undercover: Receives a similar but different word. Must blend in by giving close descriptions without knowing the civilians' exact word. Wins when impostors outnumber civilians.
Mr. White: Receives no word at all! Must bluff by listening to other players' clues and improvising. If eliminated, gets one chance to guess the civilian word to win.
The original Impostry experience. Players take turns giving short clues describing their word over multiple rounds, then vote to eliminate the suspected impostor. The eliminated player's role is revealed. If Mr. White is eliminated, they get one chance to guess the civilian word. Repeat until all impostors are found (civilians win) or impostors outnumber civilians (impostors win).
Fast-paced and high stakes. Every player describes their word once in a single round, then a single dramatic vote determines the outcome. Players must identify all impostors at once — perfect for quick rounds when time is limited.
Casual and freeform. Roles and words are distributed, then players discuss freely — no structured turns, no timers. Talk, argue, and accuse openly! When the group is ready, the host triggers the vote. Great for social gatherings where rigid turns would slow things down.
As a Civilian, give clues specific enough to prove you know the word, but vague enough not to help impostors. As Undercover, listen carefully to civilians' clues to adjust your own descriptions. As Mr. White, pay close attention to all clues to find a common theme — your survival depends on blending in. Watch for players giving very vague or very specific clues — both extremes can be suspicious!
You need at least 3 players to start a game. Impostry supports up to 20 players per room, making it perfect for small gatherings or large parties.
There are three roles: Civilians receive the main secret word, Undercover players get a similar but different word, and Mr. White gets no word at all. Civilians must find the impostors, while impostors try to blend in.
